  9. PHS Honor Code Students attending Pearland High School are expected to conduct themselves honorably in pursuit of their education. We believe students are responsible for maintaining and supporting the academic integrity of the school by completing all assigned work, activities, and tests in an honorable process without engaging in cheating, fraud, plagiarism, or prohibitive electronic assistance.

  10. Honor Code The Honor Code expressly forbids the following academic violations: Cheating –copying another's work, allowing someone to copy your work, unauthorized notes, aids, written material, signs / gestures or technological devices during an assignment or test. Plagiarism - presenting someone else’s work as your own. Having someone else do assignments which are then submitted as one’s own work.

  11. Honor Code Consequences • We believe the measure of success of our school community is based on the success of our students, so the consequences below shall serve as a deterrent to a violation of the PHS Honor Code. As a result of clear and compelling evidence of student’s cheating, the following consequences will be enforced and violations of the PHS Honor Code will accumulate throughout a student’s high school career.

  12. Honor Code Consequences First Violation of Honor Code • A student shall receive a “0” for the school work, and is subject to a “U” in conduct, and disciplinary action. • Retakes will not be allowed for assignments associated with cheating. • A student is not eligible for final exam exemption in course where cheating took place.

  13. 16. BYOD BYOD – Bring Your Own Device The goal of the Pearland High School BYOD program is to expand opportunities for learning. However, using personally owned devices at school is a privilege, not a right. This privilege may be revoked for the student body as a whole or for students individually at the discretion of the administration. Therefore, it is important that students use their devices responsibly, respect the property of others, and demonstrate that this use benefits them academically and helps them develop into good digital citizens.

  17. BYOD cont. Devices Permitted: • The following devices are permitted. Items may be added or deleted at the discretion of the school administration. • Laptops, netbooks, Chromebooks • Tablets (iPad, Xoom, Galaxy, etc.) • eReader – (Kindle, Nooks, etc.) • Smart phones

  18. BYOD cont. Where/When/Storage 1. Students may only use their device in the classroom wheninstructed to do so by their teacher. 2. Students may not use their device to text or update personal sites/accounts during school hours. 3. Students may use their device in designated common areas. 4. Students may not use their device while on school buses. 5. Students should not ask teachers or staff to ‘hold onto’ or store their device. 6. Students may not use devices to record, store, or transmit any type of image, sound, or video from campus during school activities and/or hours, except for approved projects with the express permission of the teacher.

  19. BYOD cont. Network/Internet Access/Electrical 1. Students should always use the school’s wireless network, not personal data plans, to access the web. BYOD privileges may be revoked for students found to be visiting websites which are blocked by the District’s filter. 2. No guarantee is made that the school’s wireless network will always be available. Network outages may occur without notice. In addition, no quality of wireless signal is promised. Signal strength may vary depending on the location in the school and the number of devices simultaneously connecting to the network. 3. Student devices should be charged and recharged outside of school. Devices should be capable of lasting a full day without recharging. Access to electrical outlets for charging should not be expected. 4. Printing from personal laptops or devices will not be possible at school.

  20. McMinn’s BYOD Rules • Red and green cards will be used to indicate whether you will be allowed to use your device in class on that particular day. • If you see the Red card on the board, don’t take your device out. • PHS is not Centerpoint Energy. You will not be allowed to charge your electronic device in my classroom. Outlet covers need to stay in the outlets at all times. • Repeated violation of the BYOD rules will result in your opportunity to participate in BYOD activities for the remainder of the school year.
