  2. Overview During this unit the students will:- • Identify objects and materials as solid, liquid, or gas. • Recognize that solids have a definite shape and that liquids and gases take the shape of their container. • Liquid have weight • When liquids are mixed some float and some sink

  3. Essential Questions • 1. What is a scientist and what do they do? • 2. When you sit  in a bathtub would you sink or would you float? • 3. What are some things you see in a pond? Do they sink or float?

  4. Scientific Method Each of these steps were followed every lesson Ask a Question Do background research Construct a hypothesis- In your science journal write I think________ because... Test your hypothesis Draw a conclusion Communicate your results

  5. Students with Special Needs In my class there are 21 students, 2 students are on IEPS James- has an General Anxiety Disorder Accommodations include: • ‘Check in time” during the experiment • Reassuring him that he is ok

  6. Students with Special Needscont. Alex has a Developmental Delay in Motor skills. Accommodations made: Sitting in a chair or standing during discussion on the rug Movement breaks to keep his brain more alert and focused.

  7. Assessment During this unit there are many assessment that are completed by the students. Drawing a picture in their science journals Writing an explanation of the experiment Final assessment-sink and Float presentation

  8. Try it out!!! Take a piece of foil paper. Make it into a boat that will hold pennies. Write a prediction I think the boat will sink holding _____________ pennies. Test your floater. Draw a picture of your floater and pennies.
