Keep your review ORGANIZED • Body • No set number of paragraphs • BUT each element may deserve its own paragraph (for instance, don’t discuss actors & scenic elements together) • It’s ok to like one thing and dislike something else, but make sure your varying ideas make sense together
Keep your review ORGANIZED • Body • Make sure you try to delineate between material & production • For instance, it’s entirely possible that you see a wonderful production of a crappy play or vice versa • Try to discuss strengths and weaknesses of each
Keep your review ORGANIZED • Conclusion • This gets its own paragraph • Actually wrap up – don’t just stop writing • Leave us with a clear final thought which reminds us whether you would or would not recommend the show
Other tedious details… • Titles of plays are written in italics or underlined • Song titles are in “quotation marks” • i.e. The song “Memory” from Cats, as performed by Maria Von Trapp, gripped the audience’s attention until the final cutoff.
Other tedious details… • When discussing production details, make sure you use participants’ names (actors, directors, designers, etc.) • You receive a program upon entering the theatre – keep it and use it! • This will ensure that you spell all names correctly!
