  7. Materials and Fuels Complex R&D of nuclear fuels Evaluate new reactor fuel prototypes Pyroprocessing research in recycling spent nuclear fuel Space & Security Power Systems Facility Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator for NASA New Horizons mission Neutron Radiography Reactor 250 kW TRIGA reactor

  8. Idaho Cleanup Project CH2M-WG Idaho is cleaning up the Idaho National Laboratory site – reducing risks to workers, the public, and the environment and protecting the Snake River Plain Aquifer.

  9. Transuranic WasteDisposition • Completed 216th and final target remote-handled transuranic shipment to WIPP on March 10, 2011 • Shipped 4,261 m3 (of 5,108 m3) of contact-handled transuranic waste to WIPP on schedule

  10. Decontamination, Decommissioning, Demolition Number of Buildings 208 buildings demolished – totaling 2 million square feet

  11. Buried Waste Acres of buried waste exhumed 2.55 2.46

  12. Integrated Waste Treatment Unit • Construction complete • Startup and testing

  13. FY-12 Funding Scope

  14. FY-12 Funding Scope • Remaining FY12 target scope ($130M) • IWTU Hot Startup • Sodium-bearing waste processing • Last shipments of ARP V (Pit 9) contact-handled waste • Closure of one hazardous waste tank system • Surveillance and maintenance at RWMC and INTEC • Regulatory compliance

FY-12 Other Scope FY12 Non-target scope continues but at a lower rate • Completion of the ARRA work ($30M) • MFC deactivations/demolitions (EBR-II) • RH TRU processing • Process Waste Evaporator RCRA Closure planning • Foreign Research Reactor/Domestic Research Reactor receipts • Three Mile Island/Fort St Vrain • Navy fuel shipments

  16. ICP Future • In mid-July, DOE-ID formally requested that CWI provide cost and schedule estimate for “bridge” scope in September. • FY12 “bridge” scope • Subsurface disposal area • Deactivation/Demolition • Tank Farm/Fuel • Waste Management

  17. AMWTP • Operations at the AMWTP require processing and disposing of transuranic waste and mixed low-level waste currently stored at DOE's Idaho site. • Cornerstone of DOE's commitment to prepare and ship waste out of Idaho. • Transitioning to Idaho Treatment Group • ITG assumes AMWTP contract October 1, 2011
