3. Data Dilemma • In schools, we have an abundance of data. • We are data rich and many times, information poor! • How do we transform data into information?

 4. Benefits • Immediate access to data • Opportunity to share information in real time • Opportunity to share the information with all survey participants in “real time” • How many times did you take a survey and never see the results?

 5. What data will the survey provide? • http://www.surveymonkey.com/DisplaySummary.asp?SID=2805589&U=280558936552

 6. Pros and Cons of Conducting Live Surveys in the Classroom Highly flexible. Generates student interest. Generates discussion even with a difficult group. Non-threatening. You learn what students find confusing before they leave. Can use data for assessment reporting purposes. Time: some classroom and prep time required. Need to be able to revise/load web pages for quick survey creation. Just another survey– response rates? Are answers serious? Your survey is only as good as your questions. Doesn’t always fit the nature of the class.

 7. What do you get for FREE? • They allow you to design interactive questionnaires in html format. • The survey is stored and administered in the server of the survey company. Students, colleagues, parents, teachers have to visit a website to do the survey. • It may include different kind of questions: short answer, multiple choice, open answer, etc. • You have to register, but it is free unless you want to use the upgrade feature program.

 8. Survey Monkey: http://www.surveymonkey.com offers a basic subscription that is free and includes all of the basic features of SurveyMonkey. It's a great option for individuals, students and anyone who doesn't need the advanced features of SurveyMonkey. 12. Survey Link for elementary school substitute teachers: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=722422580337Hello my name is Katherine Greenberg, I am a certified substitute in the Seattle and Highline School Districts in Washington. For the last year I have been completing my masters in elementary school education at Antioch University in Seattle. Currently, I am researching what makes an effective elementary school substitute and would be grateful if you would take a short survey for me. Please only take this survey if you were an elementary school substitute teacher. If you know someone that has been, or is currently an elementary school substitute teacher and could pass this survey along to them, I would be very thankful. I would like these surveys done before September 30, 2006 or ASAP. Please click on the link. If you have any questions you can email me at Katherine_Greenberg@antiochsea.edu Thank you for your help!
