  2. The Digital Divide… is a widening gap between those with access to new technologies and those without (WTC, 2004). In other words…a gap between the information “haves” and “have-nots.”

  3. The “haves”… • Asian-American/Island Pacific Islanders • White • Higher income • Educated • Dual-parent households

  4. The “have-nots”… • Children & young adults • Lower income • Less educated • Certain minorities • Overpopulated/underserved countries • Individuals in rural areas/central cities

Washington Times Reports • Federal support has improved basic Internet access in communities since the mid ’90s. • While the overall number of young people online has increased, according to the U.S. Commerce and Education Department data from 2000 and 2001, four in 10 children have never used the Internet. • There are significant differences in home Internet access based on income and race among 3 to 17 year olds.
