  6. 5th Grade Rules • Bring all your materials (pencils, tablets, assignment book, and books) to class. • Enter quietly, sit down, and get out your materials for the class. • Raise your hand and wait for permission before speaking or leaving your seat. • Keep hands, feet, objects, and unkind comments to yourself. • Follow directions the first time they are given.

  7. Note: Notice the consequences are not numbered. They can be applied in any order. Consequences • Warning – • Note home to parents • Loss of RECESS • Call home to parents • Report to Principal

  9. Assignments and Homework

  10. Orange Assignment Books • Develop a personal system for recording and or remembering assignments. (orange homework notebooks are REQUIRED) • Assignments will be written down at the conclusion of each period. • At the end of each day, we will switch back to homeroom to ensure that ALL students know ALL assignments for the day, and what they need to take home that evening.

Homework Charts • Activities going on outside of school • Busy evenings. • Beginning of each weekly lesson in Language Arts. • The homework chart will also be available on my website. • The sheet will show what homework is assigned each night. • At the conclusion of the lesson (Day 5), all homework will be checked for a spot completion grade. I will usually check for one random Reading, Grammar, and Spelling page and review them before the weekly test. • Time Management. • If they know they will not be able to complete a homework assignment one night, they will be able to work ahead to complete the assignment another night.

  13. “Good News Wednesday” • Red Folder • ANY Graded Work • ANY PTO information that is not date sensitive • Signed Assigned Work Due FRIDAY • All signed work will be checked off • 5 Minutes of Recess will be taken off of the following Monday’s time if assignments are not signed and returned by FRIDAY.

The Daily 5 and Café • The Daily 5 is a literacy structure that will teach independence and skills essential to develop a lifelong love for reading and writing. • The 5 tasks that make up the daily 5 will be introduced individually • When Students are fully engaged • I will be given the opportunity to work with small groups and conference with students one on one to meet individual needs. • 1. Read to Self • 2. Read to Someone • 3. Word Work • 4. Free Writing • 5. Write to Prompt

  15. Good Fit Books • I choose a book. • Purpose – Why do I want to read it? • Interest – Does it interest me? • Comprehend – Do I understand what I read? • Know – I know most of the words.

  19. Scavenger Hunt • Read your child’s Goal Pennant– My goal for this year is….   • Use a computer to find my Lesson Plans for Social Studies & L. Arts – This is what you can do if your child is ABSENT – There is a Teacher & Student section – use STUDENT section. Ask for HELP if needed.  • Use a computer to find Homework for Social Studies & L. Arts. Ask for HELP if needed.  • Find your child’s Owl in the hallway at their locker. Read Who Am I?  • Open your child’s locker and check for organization.
