  9. Exercise Practice Huddle Purpose: To practice using the three huddle questions to prepare to safely perform a task. • Form small groups of two-three persons. Each group draws a task slip from a hat • Answer the three questions for your task: ? WHAT are we about to do? HOW will we work SAFELY to minimize the risks? How could we get HURT?

  10. The Solo Huddle • Just me, myself, and I – or maybe just myself and my team leader or my supervisor • Take just a minute to ask the three questions: WHAT am I about to do? How will I work SAFELY to minimize the risks? How could I get HURT?

  11. At Work or at HOME WHAT am I about to do? HOW will I work SAFELY to minimize the risks? Pour Drano into this clogged drain Wear gloves, long sleeves, and goggles How could I get HURT? Splash burn to my skin or eyes

  12. Exercise Practice SOLO Huddle Purpose: To practice using the three huddle questions to prepare to safely perform a task. • Complete the Solo Huddle worksheet on a common task you perform at work • Be prepared to share something you noted that would make your work safer Solo Huddle Worksheet

IDEA • “A” Priorities • Purchase Guards • Repaint walkway • Move fire extinguish Safety Suggestion System • Ensure the suggestions are reviewed: • Weekly safety walkthrough – often conducted by higher level management, sometimes by rotating employees • Safetycommittee members may check each area weekly • An administrative function can be added every Friday to retrieve the sheets from each area, copy them, and repost them (with responses added)

Exercise Immediate Safety Suggestions Purpose: To “seed” the suggestion list with immediate ideas for improving safety. • Spend 5 minutes brainstorming any immediate suggestions for improving safety (Ideas and/or Concerns) • Write these on the Suggestion List(s) which you will then post in your work area(s) Safety Suggestions

REVIEW Module Review In this session (and the previous one) we focused on tools to keep the culture of safety alive every day • Speak upfor safety • Practicethe Huddle – Whether formally as a full team or solo answer the three questions: • Make Safety Suggestions ? WHAT are we about to do? HOW will we work SAFELY to minimize the risks? How could we get HURT?
