Es bietet freien Zugang für Gastnutzer.  Je präziser die Suchbegriffe und deren Kombination sind, desto besser sind die Resultate.  Bibliografische Information ist zumeist kostenlos, Online-Bestellungen und Volltext- Zugriff sind kostenintensiv (Abhilfe: Open Archives Initiative).  Zeitschriftenartikel lassen sich mit „Pay Per View“ auf den Bildschirm bringen (sehr teuer!) 13 NRW-Landesseminar der 15.
