  3. Old English Charateristics The old English alphabet consists of 24 letters Anglo-Saxons were converted to christianity and a number of terms from the language of religion latin came into English at that time

Germanlanguage Characteristics • The German language does not exist in isolation; it has close connections with other languages. • The German alphabet consists of all the 26 letters • German word order is variable and relations between nouns are demonstrated by changing the cases of the nouns. German has 4 cases, namely nominative, accusative, genitive and dative cases.

Some evidence of the close relation between the old English and the old an English • Old English was the West Germanic language spoken in the area now known as England between the 5th and 11th centuries.
