  4. What exactly is a protocol? “A protocol consists of agreed upon guidelines for a conversation.” • Assists in building the skills and culture for collaborative work • Makes it safe to ask challenging questions • License to listen without having to continuously respond • Efficient use of time

  5. Why do we revisit the protocols in the Literacy Workgroup?Why now?

  8. Seek to understand not to be understood • Listen without judging • Accept the differences in people • Avoid “you should have” • Avoid unsolicited advice • Do not talk about your own experiences • Avoid stereotypes • Stay focused on the evidence
