  3. Objectives At the end of this session, participants will be able to: • Describe some of the special features of the Qualtrics software • Explain how to create and distribute a survey, gather data, and select reporting options • Determine if Qualtrics is a good fit for specific projects

  4. What is Qualtrics? An online survey software available through the HSC It enables users to: • create survey instruments • distribute them electronically • track participation • send invitations and reminders • display survey results graphically and statistically • export raw data in a variety of formats Stanford University IT Services, 2013

How do I access Qualtrics? • Open a web browser window (i.e. Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc.) • Access Qualtrics: www.tamuhsc.qualtrics.comand click on “Create a New Account.” Type in your HSC email address and then create a personal password • Log-in by entering your username and password

  6. The software… • is user-friendly but can handle complex designs • can be used to produce simple surveys in minutes with a “quick survey builder” guide for beginners • complex studies, involving randomization and embedded and longitudinal data, are also possible Payne & Medina, 2013

  8. The ability to customize almost everything • logos, branding, text, questions, messages, choices, reports, graphs, images, colors, exports, code, e-mails, fonts, skins, sharing, panels, and blocks. Qualtrics, 2014

  10. Support and Resources • Helpful and friendly customer support • Training videos and additional resources

  11. Dashboard • Allows you to quickly create, edit, and access surveys • Enables collaboration with a survey sharing mechanism • Provides an opportunity to view results and distribute the survey

  12. Libraries • Include templates that can be adjusted to meet specific needs • Provide an ability to store and share commonly used surveys and question banks

  13. Skip Logic Item and Question Block Tools • Select the question that the skip logic will be inserted after • Click on “Add Skip Logic” • Select “Done”

  14. Survey Flow • Display Logic - It will help you if you need something more than just ''and if'' logic. You can conditionally display entire questions or individual statements in a matrix table. • Branch Logic - Skip or display entire sections of questions; create multiple termination points within a survey. • Loop and Merge- Building a survey which cycles through a block of questions for a specific list or selections from a previous question. Publishing and Distributing Surveys • Click on “Distribute Survey” or “Launch Survey” • Select “Activate your survey to collect responses” • Copy and paste the link in an email (Note that the link can be customized) • Distribution of surveys to select panels of e-mail recipientsis also possible

Additional Features • survey translation capabilities, allowing respondents to select a language or default to a browser language preference and track those selections in survey results • continuous file saving, minimizing potential data loss due to browser crashes • folders for survey organization Qualtrics University, 2014

Results and Reporting Options • Ability to create custom reports that update as soon as new responses are received • Includes features that similar survey software does not • Select “Results” and then one of the following: • View Reports • Edit Results • Download Data • Cross Tabulation Qualtrics, 2014

View Report Options • Filters and Subgroups: Filter your report by date, keyword, subgroup, question response, etc. • Drill Down: Create a comparative report that divides each graph and table by the answers to a specific question. • Reorder Questions: Drag and drop questions to adjust the order. • Stylization: Change the color, font, and size of graphs and tables. • Share: Publish your report to the web, collaborate with other users, or schedule report emails to be sent at specific times. • Export: Download your report as a Word document, PowerPoint Presentation, Excel Spreadsheet, or PDF.
