  3. Teachers Students Teachers and learners may communicate at times of their own choosing by exchanging electronic media, or through technology allowing them to communicate in real time.

  4. Blended learning Distance education that requires a physical on-site presence for any reason (i.e. examinations) is considered to be a hybrid or blended course of study.

  5. The types of available technologies used in distance education are divided into two groups: • Synchronoustechnology (telephone, vedeoconferencing, webconferencing) is a mode of online delivery whereall participants are "present" at the sametime. Itrequires a timetabletobeorganized. Syncronous

  6. 2. Asynchronoustechnology(audiocassette, e-mail, forums, print material, fax, videocassette). is a mode of online delivery where participants access course materials on their own schedule. Learners are not required to be together at the same time.

  7. 2008-2009 e-learning course ITIS Giorgi has implemented an e-learning course for the school year 2008-2009

  8. The e-learning course, dealing with English as language 2, has started at the beginning of September. Three classes have been included with a total of 20 learners. Learners have been enrolled in a virtual class on Indire Platform.

  9. Students have first been enabled, in presence, to use the platform and its contents.

  10. Latertheyhavebeenurgedtofollow the distance educationmainlythroughasyncronoustools, sincethey are abletochoose the best timetoenter the platform, takinginto account the timelimits due totheir job and family obligations. Neverthlesstheyhavebeengiven the possibilityof a syncronousapproch(throughSkype), in case they wouldhavehad the opportunityofusingit.

Since testing the tutor on-line activities is our primary objective, the course has been dealing with: • grammartopicsincluded in the curricula; • Comprehensiontextsfromhttp://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learningenglish/, includinglisteningsto the texts, explanationsof the mainwords and expressions, formative tests; • JokestoincreaseEnglish vocabularyquickly and easily. You can laugh and learn at the sametime! • Vocabularyresearchon specificfields; • Idioms; • Supporttoanylearner’s request.
