  1. (Because she’s the worst) What we can learn about public speaking from Kristen Stewart

  2. 1. Don’t act like whoever you’re speaking with is wasting your time • Essential in anything, • particularly interviews • In this case, YOU are the time-waster • Be gracious • No one wants to listen to someone who acts like they have better places to be

  3. 2. Don’t excessively touch your face or hair • Even when nervous, keep your hands away from your face • Classic K-Stew – looks bad

  4. 3. Don’t bite your lip • You don’t look cute • Nervous or self-conscious • You look like a kid telling your mom you got in trouble at school.

  5. 4. Avoid interjections that mean nothing • “Uh”, “um”, “like” • Can be hard due to casual conversation • To avoid, speak at a slower pace • Uh...

  6. 5. Don’t trail off at the end of sentences • Hard to avoid in certain situations • i.e. interviews, any time you’re unsure • Finish sentences firmly • If you’re not confident in what you say, no one else will be either

  7. 6. Don’t turn declarative sentences into questions. • Also makes you look unsure of what you’re saying • If you have something to say, say it • Like, I won an award?

  8. 7. Look at the person/people you are speaking to • Look people in the eye • Big group – look at the back of the wall over their heads • Don’t look down or slouch

  9. 8. Avoid long pauses • Be confident • Don’t babble, but continue speaking

  10. 9. Don’t curse or make jokes that make people feel awkward • You might think it will make your audience feel comfortable, but you are wrong • Curse words are more jarring in speeches than in casual conversation

  11. 10. Don’t end speeches/answers/presentations with… • “So…there you go.” • “So…yeah.” • “Kay, bye.” • Actual quotes from some of Kristen Stewart’s speeches • Just don’t.

  12. Basically… • …don’t do anything in this video and you should be just fine. • Kristen Stewart: Teaches You How to Speak More Good
