  2. Our Project • We discussed what exercise we do & what we used to do • We talked about barriers & how to overcome them • We did research into what facilities are available • We made an action plan

  3. Barriers to taking part: • Transport / parking • Accessibility (buildings) • Trained staff • Facilities not fit for purpose (eg swimming pool too cold)

  4. We had a great day at Lakes College Active Zone

  5. But the hardest barrier to overcome is cost: Active Zone Day Wheelchair transport Cost of care staff Venue hire Cost of trained staff

  6. Benefits of exercise: • Helps with breathing (problems associated with some disabilities) • Keeps the body supple • Makes you feel good (energy & self-esteem) • Group activities are easier & FUN!

  9. Our Action Plan: • To do weekly exercise activities in our WEA class • To try & get more Disabled people involved • To source funding for events at Active Zone • To involve other partner organisations
