  1. 10 Things That Everyone Should Know About Everest Base Camp Trek

  2. The sight of the tallest mountain peak can be overwhelming. The Everest Base Camp trek takes you to one of the elevated areas on the planet where few dare to go! It is a test of your endurance with low oxygen levels and a terrain that puts your physical strength through the strenuous ordeal. • 10 things to know about Everest Base Camp trekking- • When flying from Kathmandu to Lukla, get yourself a seat on the left side of the fight if you wish to see the mighty white Himalayan peaks unfold dramatically in front of you. While if you sit on the right, your view will be of the smaller Himalayan Mountains full of greens. • The right times for the best time to go on the Everest Base Camp Trek are October to November and March to May. The reason is simple – these are the months when the visibility in these parts is the clearest.

  3. Acclimatize so that you do not experience AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). After your arrival in Lukla – by flight, jeep, or bus – your trek starts. On Day 2, you reach NamcheBazar. This is where experts advise you to acclimatize – the logic is that it should take you about 8 days to reach Everest Base Camp from Lukla. This means you should spend at least a day in Namche to rest your body. • Physical fitness is important. Remember to prepare yourself mentally and physically for the trek at least 6 months prior to the actual journey. To build strength and endurance, train for at least 10 tens every day. • To prevent AMS, you need to keep yourself hydrated and avoid alcohol and caffeine. Stick to a diet that is high on proteins and carbs. • Avoid drinking the local tap water. Best is to either buy mineral water bottles or use water purification tablets – remember, as the altitude increases, the price of water gets expensive.

  4. Ensure that you are packed well for the journey to the Everest Base Camp Trek. Carry less weight and appropriate dressing. Also, do not forget the tissues or toilet papers. • Remember to pack goodies like throat lozenges, snacks like potato chips and biscuits. • For your mobile phone, keep a power bank handy. Remember, to charge the batteries in higher altitudes you have to pay an exorbitant amount. • If you are someone who loves high altitudes, do try the Gokyo Lake Trek on the way back. It is the highest freshwater lake on Earth.
