  2. In ancient times the ruler of Bratislava Castle was a prince . Everybodywasunhappybecause in Bratislava lived a dragonwho had threeheads.

  3. People were afraid of the dragon because he had destroyed everything they had. Nobodywanted to fightwiththedragon. Everybodywas so scared.

  4. Once a man went to the place where the dragon lived and asked him: “Why have you destroyed everything?“ The dragon answered: “In spring, when I wake up from my long winter sleep, I want a girl. Notonlynowbuteveryyear. Then I‘ll leave you alone“.

  5. The man told the prince what the dragon had said. The prince agreed and people brought a girl who had to go to the dragon. They repeated it every year. Thegirls‘ nameswerewritten on a stone. After eleven years it was the prince‘s daughter’s turn. Hernamewas Dúbravka.

  6. Everyone cried in the town because Dúbravka was the daughter of the prince. Suddenly a man came to the town. HisnamewasGeorge. He asked them: “Why are you crying?“ “We are crying because the dragon has the prince‘s daughter,“ somebody answered.

  7. George didn‘t wait, but went to the dragon‘s place immediately. He had a longspear and a horse. He was absolutely fearless.

  8. When George found the dragon, he cut off one of his heads. Butthedragon had two more heads. It wasn‘t a problem for him and he cut off theother two heads as well.

  9. George defeated the dragon and saved Dúbravka. Theprincegavehimhisdaughter. He also wanted to give him a part of his kingdom, but George didn‘t accept it. There was a town near Bratislava and the prince called it St.George. St.Georgeisthetrueheroof Bratislava.
