  3. Welcome and Registration • Welcome • Have you had your hot chocolate? • Registration • Please complete register to ensure that we have your correct details • The database of residents’ details will only be used for Dalecross Residents Association matters

  4. Background – the Suburb • There are 65 homes in the area • No roads through our suburb • Access to 2 schools (via back entrance) • Montrose • Crawford • River below Shrublands is fenced off

  5. Background - Security • 1997: we installed one of the first legal booms in JHB • 2009: we installed high tech automated access control • Automated booms where each paying resident has a remote • Controlled access using stickers by category of resident/ flats/ school • Operated by Top Security • Armed response in the area is provided by: • Top • ADT • Chubb • Coin

  6. Background – contributors • Out of a total of 69 residences in the area: • 49 contribute to the booms • 36 homes pay the full contribution • 13 homes pay a part contribution • 16 do not contribute at all • Rosewalk Gardens and Manor pay lump sum

  7. Security incidents for the Region • Period:01 Jan to 01 June 2010 • Parkmore – 64 • Riverclub – 5 • Sandown – 71 • Morningside – 18 • Dalecross - 0 • Hurlpark - 4

  8. Finance • Bank balance (31 May) – R39 167 (equivalent of 1.25month’s expenses) • Monthly income - R 28k – 38k • Full payers (R550 p/mth) – 36 homes • Part payers – 13 homes • Non payers – 16 homes • Expenses of R 32 000 per month (Top security) • Indemnity Insurance – R 2k pa (cover of R5m)

  9. Thanks to Steve and Marie Conradie • Steve single handedly managed the operations • He funded more than R75 000 personally to install the automated booms and waited nearly a year to be reimbursed. • Responded to repair booms at all hours. • Marie managed the finances.

  10. What is motivating us to get going? • After 12 years Steve and Marie Conradie resigned from the committee • Crime Stats in surrounding areas • Financials – insufficient reserves and inability to fund capital expenditure.

  11. Initiatives Planned Security Current offering from TOP. R295 per month for boom contributors Closure of Marie gate at night (6 pm to 6 am) Streetlights Website Know your neighbour Maximise contributions Foster better relations with Crawford and Varsity College; Waterford Estate

  13. Challenges ahead • Obtaining commitment from residents to assist • Reduce burden on a few people • Funding of Proposed closure of gate at Marie at night – Go ahead needed.
