Background • Current qualifications were introduced 1st August 2006 based on the then-new Design Principles. • Progress of implementation monitored by Qualifications Support Team through the membership and through External Verifiers. • SQA Research carried out with a representative sample of SQA Colleges, 2007-08. • Certain issues were identified so decided to address these at time of five-year review.

  5. Review and consultation process lasted approximately 18 months: • Consultation with Further Education May 09 • Consultation with Former & Current Candidates Aug 09 • Focus Groups 2010: Research, Psychology, Sociology, Politics, Philosophy

  6. Results: • Minor revisions to the Units, except for Politics. • Changes to the assessment strategy. • Assessment instruments can be chosen by centres and are not prescribed. • ‘D’ units are all specialist studies, similar to the current Geography D unit.

  7. Further Consultations: • Employers sector Sept/Oct 10 • Higher Education sector Oct/Nov 10

  8. 2011 • March - HNC and HND awards validated - All the new Units validated. • Launch events in June - FE - HE • New qualifications operational from 1st August • On-going production of exemplar assessments
