  1. Education & Educators Logan Cochrane April 7th, 2011

  2. Where do we start? • “O’ Lord, increase me in knowledge” (20:114) • Personal Plans • Memorization timeline • Continuing Education Studies • Pursuits in the Islamic Sciences • Our focus and efforts are mirrored.

  3. Knowing our Purpose • Is there an education crisis? • We must understand the purpose. • And, we must enact it. “Actions are but by intentions” (Bukhari and Muslim)

  4. So … what then is the purpose? • Educational philosophy is diverse. • Is our purpose any different? • Knowing our purpose, as educators, is effective if our students know their purpose.

  5. Being a Learner • Teaching is learning. • Students are teachers. • An example: Imam al Bukhari

  6. Where are the flames? • The most noble of examples. • An educator abuMusa al Ash’ari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “Whoever is granted knowledge by Allah, let him teach it.” (Recorded in al Tabaqat4/107)

  7. “May Allah brighten the face of the person who hears what I say and retains it, then conveys it to others; for sometimes one who hears from another remembers it better than the original hearer himself.”  (Ahmad and Tirmidhi)

  8. “Convey even if it is only one verse.”   (Sahih Al Bukhari) “By the time, verily man is in loss, except such as have Faith, and do righteous deeds, and join (together) in the mutual enjoining of Truth, and of patience and constancy.”  (Surah Al-Asr)

  9. It is your turn! • Thoughts • Comments • Questions • Suggestions May Allah reward you with good in this life, with good in the next life and protect you from the fire. Amin.

  10. Final note: A Sunnah Glory is to You, O Allah, and praise is to You. I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but You. I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You.
