  1. A9.01 Project Description: Chapel Arts Center: The chapel arts building is the centerpiece of the K-12 school's campus. The private, independent school of approximately 800 students did not have proper facilities for expression of neither the artistic nor Christian elements of its curriculum. Our firm was engaged to master plan, design, and support fund-raising for this structure. Not only does the chapel arts center and its technological/digital infrastructure meet the needs of the art and music curriculum, this building has allowed the school to expand its course offerings to include dance, drama, technical lighting & sound, recording, set design, and a number of other production and post-production programs. Gymnasium: Our firm was commissioned to design the upper school, competition gymnasium for the K-12 school. The wood courts support competition volleyball and basketball meeting all the requirements of the Louisiana High School Athletic Associations for play-off and multi-school tournament play. Configured in an "old school" layout, approximately 650-spectators can be seated on fixed wood bleachers raised above the level of the court while a special student section for around 200 is located at court level, directly behind one of the goals. Building Area: 29,630 SF Chapel Arts 19,700 SF Gymnasium Cost per Square Foot: $152/sf Chapel Arts $ 201/sf Gymnasium Construction Cost: $4.5 million Chapel Arts $3.9 million Gymnasium Date of Completion: August 2013 Chapel Arts January 2014 Gymnasium

  2. A9.02 As the center piece of the campus, the new arts building provides a center for expression of both the artistic and Christian elements of the school’s curriculum, allowing the school to expand its course offerings to include dance, drama, technical lighting & sound, recording, set design, and a number of other production and post-production programs. The arts center is designed to be flexible and is regularly used by the entire lower, middle, and upper schools, as well as churches, several community organizations, traveling productions for concerts, performances, worship services, memorials, and regional business seminars.

  3. A9.03 “Rooted in the Classics, Shaping the future!” The use of classic building materials such as whitewash brick, stucco, and shingles, consistently used throughout the campus, were deliberately planned for these new structures and drive the style of the architecture, while technological/digital infrastructure meets the needs of the art and music curriculum.

  4. A9.04 Natural light, symbolically equated with beauty and goodness, combined with decorative art glass in curtain wall, provide a modern spiritual experience in this Prayer Room.

  5. A9.05 The main entry and lobby of the gymnasium serve as the primary social, reception, and gallery space of the school. Like the exterior building materials, slate tile and interior finish palettes are consistent with other campus buildings and school colors.

  6. A9.06 This facility houses a collegiate quality auditorium/chapel for 650-students, dance studio, black box theatre/choir room, drama room with costuming and set construction facilities and a band and practice rooms on its first floor. On the second floor are art rooms that support, 2- and 3- dimension art as well as ceramics and photography.

  7. A9.07 The upper school gymnasium supports competition volleyball and basketball meeting all the requirements of the Louisiana High School Athletic Associations for play-off and multi-school tournament play. The curvilinear forms embrace the action and make this assembly space come alive!

  8. A9.08 “Rooted in the Classics, Shaping the future!” The use of classic building materials such as whitewash brick, stucco, and shingles, consistently used throughout the campus were deliberately planned for these new structures and drive the style of the architecture.

  9. A9.09 The gymnasium entry lobby features an interactive school-oriented “Sports Hall of Fame”. Like the exterior building materials, slate tile and interior finish palettes are consistent with other campus buildings and school colors.

  10. A9.10 Configured in an "old school" layout, approximately 650-spectators can be seated on fixed wood bleachers raised above the level of the court while a special student section for around 200 is located at court level, directly behind one of the goals. Two large electronic scoreboards highlight all the action. For practice sessions, goals can be lowered to provide 2 full-sized basketball courts or nets can be installed for dual volleyball workouts. Subtle tiger striping was planned in the design of the wood courts.

  11. A9.11 The athletic facilities include team and visitor locker rooms for both boys and girls, team/replay meeting room, trainer's room, and coaches offices. Support areas of the 19,000-plus building include concession stand, public restrooms, team/spirit store, and expanded storage.
