  3. CAPES CAPES is a public foundation linked to the Ministry of Education, whose mission is to build capacity in higher education and support the training and development of teachers of Basic Education.

  4. Main Activities • Accreditation and evaluation of all Brazilian graduate programs; • Scholarships and grants for graduate, masters and PhD studies and post-doctoral research in Brazilian and foreign Universities; • Financial Support to Graduate Courses; • International agreements on research exchange and cooperation; • Virtual Library (on line access to 34,000 international scientific journals); • Teacher training programs for Primary and Secondary Education (new activity since 2008); • Maintenance of the Brazilian Open University (UAB).

What is it? • The BrazilianScientificMobilityProgram "Ciencia sem Fronteiras"is an initiative of the Brazilian Federal Government, which seeks to promote the consolidation, expansion and internationalization of Science and Technology, as well as Brazilian competitiveness, throughout the international mobility; • The Program is a joint implementation of CAPES/CNPq and direct monitoring of the Civil Cabinet.

  10. National Development Strategy • Invest in the development of skills and competences needed to a knowledge-based economy; • Focus on the national strategic challenges; • Engineering and other areas of technology and innovation.

  11. Objectives • Training up to 101.000 Brazilian students and researchers at the best universities of the world in the field of Science, Technology and Innovation, of which 75.000 are funded by the Federal Government and 26.000 by the private sector; • Promote science, technology, innovation and competitiveness of the country; • Open similar opportunities to foreign scientists and researchers; • Create innovative expertise to industries.

  24. ACTIONS • The EwB Program offers three modules to support the learning of English: • Online course: 2 million passwords for the online course through CAPES’s Journal Portal; • English level diagnosis: 500 000 TOEFL / ITP free tests; • Attendance courses in Federal Public Universities.
