  1. Presentation Vypracoval: Adam Bábík

  2. Silicon dioxide

  3. SiO2 • is one of the most common chemical compounds • silica crystals are found in the nature in three forms, the most common form si quartz • pure silica is colorless or white • it is widely and abundently distributed on the Earth in the pure state or in the form of silicates • it has many important uses in various branches of industry

  4. Quartz • is most common form of silicon dioxide • we may found it in sand, rocks, clay and granite

  5. Silicates • silicates are compounds of Silicon and Oxygen combined with one or more metal ions, for example by Iron, Calcium or Magnesium • most of minerals are formed from silica, like agate, amethyst, chalcedony, jasper, onyx, crystalline, jadeit, soapstone, topaz, zircon etc. • silicates are divided to many categories: neosilicates, sorosilicates, cyklosilicates, inosilicates, phyllosilicates and tectosilicates

  6. Jadeit Topaz Soapstone Zircon Jasper Quartz

  7. Applications + products • silica is used ceramic material • it si commonly used like filler for paints, plastics, adhesives and rubber • silica is raw material for the production of glass, for windows, bottles, jars, lights bulbs and like plate glass • it withstands sudden changes of temperature, and then it can be used in parts, which are subjected to wide ranges of heat and cold
