  1. Contend for the Faith with conviction What Is the Faith? Subjective Faith Or Objective Faith God’s system of faith revealed on the pages of inspiration (Gal. 1:11, 23). That which we believe and is produced by the Word of God (Rom. 10:17).

  2. Contend for the Faith with conviction What Is the Faith? Objective Faith • There is only ONE “Faith.” God’s system of faith revealed on the pages of inspiration (Gal. 1:11, 23).

  3. Eph 4:4-6 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. One of Everything or A Plurality of All! There Is More Than One: If there is more than one Faith Body Spirit Hope Lord Baptism God and Father then

  5. Contend for the Faith with conviction What Is the Faith? Objective Faith • There is only ONE “Faith.” God’s system of faith revealed on the pages of inspiration (Gal. 1:11, 23). The Faith Doesn't change!

  6. The Faith Doesn’t Change • The first person sprinkled for baptism was in 251 A.D. • The impossibility of apostasy doctrine was first advocated in 400 A.D. • The first universal pope was crowned in 606 A.D. • The first instrument of music to be used in worship was in 670 A.D. • Good Friday and the forbidding of eating red meat was instituted in 998 A.D. • The doctrine of purgatory was first advanced as an official dogma in 1439 A.D. • Man made tradition was first made equal to the Bible at the council of Trent in 1545 A.D.

  7. The Faith Doesn’t Change • The first person sprinkled for baptism was in 251 A.D. The faith still says baptism is a burial (Rom. 6:4). • The impossibility of apostasy doctrine was first advocated in 400 A.D. The faith still says that one can fall from grace (Gal. 5:4). • The first universal pope was crowned in 606 A.D. The faith still says that Christ is the head of the church (Eph. 5:23). • The first instrument of music to be used in worship was in 670 A.D. The faith still says sing and nothing about playing (Eph. 5:19).

  8. The Faith Doesn’t Change • Good Friday and the forbidding of eating red meat was instituted in 998 A.D. The faith still says that eating meat with thanksgiving is lawful (1 Tim. 4:1-5). • The doctrine of purgatory was first advanced as an official dogma in 1439 A.D. The faith still says we must bear our own burdens (Gal. 6:5). • Man made tradition was first made equal to the Bible at the council of Trent in 1545 A.D. The faith still says that we must abide in the doctrine of Christ, not the traditions of men (2 Jn. 9).

  9. Contend for the Faith with conviction What Is the Faith? Objective Faith • There is only ONE “Faith.” • “The Faith” was ONCE delivered. God’s system of faith revealed on the pages of inspiration (Gal. 1:11, 23).

  10. “The Faith Was ONCE “Delivered” ONCE (Hapax) “One (or a single) time (numerically or conclusively”(New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary). "Once for all," of what is of perpetual validity, not requiring repetition” (from Vine's Expository Dictionary of Biblical Words).

  11. Contend for the Faith with conviction How Should We Contend for the Faith? We Must Contend Earnestly! “Signifies to contend about a thing, as a combatant" (Jude 3). The word "earnestly" is added to convey the intensive force of the preposition (Vine's Expository Dictionary of Biblical Words).

  12. Contend for the Faith with conviction Why Should We Contend for the Faith? A. Because some pervert the grace of God (ver. 4).

  13. How the Grace of God Is Perverted Today • By using grace to excuse or permit a lifestyle contrary to the gospel. Once Saved, Always Saved

  14. How the Grace of God Is Perverted Today Sam Morris “We take the position that a Christian’s sins do not damn the soul. The way a Christians lives has nothing whatever to do with the salvation of his soul. All the sins he may commit from idolatry to murder will not make his soul in any more danger.” Bill Foster “If I killed my wife and mother and debauched a thousand women, I couldn’t go to hell—in fact, I couldn’t go to hell if I wanted to.”

  15. How the Grace of God Is Perverted Today • By using grace to excuse or permit a lifestyle contrary to the gospel. Once Saved, Always Saved • By using grace as an excuse to disregard the commandment of God. Faith Only • By using grace as a means to deny God’s ordained form of punishment. No Hell

  16. Contend for the Faith with conviction Why Should We Contend for the Faith? • Because some pervert the grace of God (ver. 4a). • Because some deny proper authority (ver. 4b).

  17. How Some Deny Proper Authority Today • By their lack of respect for the Bible. Catholic Dictionary, pp. 41-42 “It is an article of faith from a decree of the Vatican Council that Tradition is a source of theological teaching distinct from Scripture, and that it is infallible. It is therefore to be received with the same internal assent of Scripture, for it is the Word of God.”

  18. How Some Deny Proper Authority Today • By their lack of respect for the Bible. Catechism for Adults, pg. 11 “Do you have to believe in Tradition? Yes, because it is the Word of God and has equal authority with the bible.”

  19. How Some Deny Proper Authority Today • By their lack of respect for the Bible. • By setting up synods, councils and conven-tions to make and enforce laws.

  20. Contend for the Faith with conviction Why Should We Contend for the Faith? • Because some pervert the grace of God (ver. 4a). • Because some deny proper authority (ver. 4b). • Because the salvation of souls are at stake (ver. 3).
