  1. Using Blackboard Learn to Assess Learning Outcomes Beverly RoskosDepartment of Psychology Faculty Technology Showcase, January 8, 2013

  2. Outcome 1:Calculate basic descriptive statistics Assessment: % students correct on calculation of central tendency and variability on Exam 1. In Excel, record scores for each part of the exam. Calculate % of students who earned 10 (out of 10) on the calculation of central tendency. 52% achieved outcome Calculate % of students who earned 10 (out of 10) on the calculation of variability. 61% achieved outcome

  3. Outcome 2:Calculate basic inferential statistics Assessment: % students correct on calculation of calculations of z (Exam2) and t tests (Exam3). In Excel, record scores for each part of the exam. Calculate % of students who earned 10 (out of 10) on the calculation of z test. 58% achieved outcome Calculate % of students who earned 10 (out of 10) on the calculation of a t test. 100% achieved outcome

  4. Outcome 3:Interpret statistical resultsOutcome 4: Use statistical software to analyze data: • Click on Grade Center • Click on Full Grade Center • Click on arrow next to grade column. Assessment: % students correct on interpretation questions from Labs 4, 8, and 12. In Blackboard Learn, use rubric for grading. To obtain a summary of performance, follow the steps at right.

  5. Click on Rubric Evaluation Report Click Submit

  6. Frequency Distribution: Distribution of scores across each level of achievement. Unfortunately, grader did not use rubric, so I don’t have results (yet).

  8. Outcome 5:Identify appropriate statistical tests • Click on Grade Center • Click on Full Grade Center • Click on arrow next to grade column. Assessment: % students earning 28-30 (out of 30) on an applied comprehensive final in which they had to determine the appropriate statistical test to use in each given situation. In Blackboard Learn, use column statistics. To obtain a summary of performance, follow the steps at right.

  9. Click on Column Statistics 52 out of 56 (93%) achieved outcome

  10. Outcome 6:Use Tools of Pedagogy Assessment:Total amount of time and average length of time students use Blackboard Learn. In Blackboard Learn, Click on Evaluation Click on Course Reports Click on arrow next to Course Activity Overview Click Run

  11. Students used Blackboard Learn for a total of 304.29 hours, with an average of 5.63 hours per student.
