  2. Warm Up • Read the passage “Life in a Fishbowl” • Do the following in your notebook: Create a flow chart starting at the smallest living thing to the biggest most complex living thing. HINT Cells should be first. Make sure to: Define each word. Write an example of each term from the reading.

  3. Cells • The basic unit of life • They make up all living things • Specialized in plants and animals. They perform specific jobs • Produce energy • Grow and repair

  4. Tissue • Group of similar cells that work together to perform a particular function • Human body contains several types of tissue • Tissues are classified according to their function • epithelial- covers the inner and outer surface of the body • Nerve- serves as a messaging system; carries an electrical impulse between the brain and the body systems • Muscle- functions in movement, relaxations and contractions • Connective- hold parts of the body together, provides support, protection, strength, padding, and insulation

  5. Organ • Is a structure that is made up of 2 or more types of tissues that work together to carry out a function in the body • EX. Heart Lungs Brain Kidney Stomach And many more organs

  6. Organ System • A group of organs that together perform a function that helps the body meet its need for energy materials. • Ex. Nervous System Skeletal System Digestive System Circulatory System Respiratory System And many more….

  7. Pyramid Activity • With your partner, Create a pyramid for the levels of organization. Cells-tissues-organs-organ systems-organisms Include two examples of each and an illustration.
