  15. WHAT IS THE DSP TOOLKIT? An online self assessment of your organisation’s data security • Demonstrates compliance with the 10 data security standards • Must be completed once and then reviewed annually • (31st March) • Organisations that provide care through an NHS standard contract must complete the DSPT DSPT: Data Security and Protection Toolkit ** DSPT replaced the IG toolkit in April 2018

HOW WILL THE TOOLKIT HELP YOU? 1 As a social care provider you have a duty to safeguard confidential patient information, and are responsible for ensuring data is collected, handled, stored and shared securely. 2 The Data Security Protection Toolkit (DSPT) is a way to demonstrate your care home is practising good data security and handling patient data correctly. This will give you the opportunity to list all the patient, staff, and other data you keep, how you keep them secure, and the purpose of this information.

  17. WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH A COMPLETED DSP TOOLKIT? You can use the DSPT as evidence for: • CQC Key Lines of Enquiry (KLOEs) • Caldicott Principles • 10 Data Standards The DSPT opens upopportunities for data sharing: 1. Gain access to digital tools such as: NHSmail, Coordinate My Care and Summary Care Records. 2. DATA SECURITY AND PROTECTION TOOLKIT: A WALKTHROUGH 01 02 Completing your profile Registering Go to:https://www.dsptoolkit.nhs.uk/Account/Login The first time you sign in, click on the “Forgot your Password” button. This will allow you to set your administrator password. Click on “Continue to Questions” on the following screen. If you need guidance on completing the organisation profile questions, this is covered in the workbook Go to:https://www.dsptoolkit.nhs.uk/Account/Register You will need an email address and your site’s ODS Code (Organisation Code). If you don’t know this code you can find it on the ODS portal: https://odsportal.hscic.gov.uk/Organisation/SearchIf you are still having trouble, please contact exeter.helpdesk@nhs.net If you are registering your organisation for the first time, you will become the administrator. You will be responsible for completing your organisation’s profile and adding any other users.

DATA SECURITY AND PROTECTION TOOLKIT: A WALKTHROUGH 03 Publish your Entry Level DSPT 04 Provide Evidence • To publish at “Entry Level” on the DSPT, you must complete the 14 evidence items detailed in this workbook. • There is no specific order required to complete these. The system will autosave at regular intervals. • The remainder of the workbook will help you identify what should be provided for each evidence item. • Once you have added the evidence, click save on the dialogue box. This will mark the section as complete. • Click “Publish Entry Level Assessment” on the right • Click “Continue” • Click “Publish” • You will receive an email confirming that you have published! Make sure you familiarise yourself with the DSPT glossary!
