  4. Plot •  Marlow sits at the Thames River in the evening with several other people and he begins telling the story about how he entered into the dark continent out of nowhere.  Marlow wants to go to Africa to his Aunt who got him a position as a captain of a steamboat of an ivory company.  The previous captain Freslaven died in a scuffle with the natives and Marlow took his place.  A few days later, Marlow travels to Africa and gets to the first station where he meets the accountant who works in Kurtz’s company. Marlow is in charge of finding Kurtz who is somewhere in a jungle. During his journey he meets with cannibals and with savages. One day they attack him and his crew. One of the savages is Kurtz. He is crazy and injured. That´s why Marlow takes him on the boat but Kurtz doesn´t survive the journey home. During the travelling Marlow changes opinion on some things in his life.

  5. My opinion • Reading this book was quite difficult for me because I don´t like this genre. I thought that the plot would be about something else. So I was disappointed. It´s for people who like adventure literature. That´s the reason why I´m not a fan of this book. • Positive on this book is that it´s not only adventure story. You will find there philosophical question too.

  6. scuffle= rvát se, tahanice • shack= bouda, chýše • retreat= ústup • worship= uctívání • rivet= nýt • savage= divoch • This book was guite easy to read for me. But sometimes I had to to look to a dictionary.

  7. On this book were based these films: In 1979: Director: F. F. Coppola Film: Apocalypse Now In 1993: Director: NicolasRoeg Film: Heart of darkness
