A general definition of career management skills • Career management skillsrefer to a wholerange of competenceswhichprovidestructuredways for individuals and groups to gather, analyse, synthesise and organiseself, educational and occupationalinformation, as well as the skills to make and implementdecisions and transitions (Sultana 2009) • Theyrelate to self-consciousnessor to an awareness of opportunities (education, professions, jobs)(knowledge dimension) • Theyalsorelate to decisionmakingskills as well as to those of implementation of decisions and transitions (process dimension) • …and to the experience of social participation (Gravina & Lovsin 2012) Jukka Lerkkanen & Anne Leppänen

Individualemployabilitydepens on: (a) Personal characteristics (including the adequacy of knowledge and skills); (b) How personalcharacteristicspresentthemselves and aredisplayed in the jobmarket; (c) Social context and environmentalimpact (i.e. incentives and opportunitiesto develop and updateone’scompetence) (d) State of economy(e.g. economicboomorrecession).
