  3. Bibliography功用 • 確定和鑑別—identification and verification • 著者、題名、版本、日期 • 提供選擇—selection • 協助閱讀和採購 • 提供出處—location • 何處出版？那個圖書館有典藏？何處可獲得？ • 文獻工作—documentation • 有助於文獻資料的收集選擇、整理加工、儲存檢索、重製、推廣、翻譯評介

  4. 使用Bibliography時機 • Identification and verification • 想要確認出版品的author、title、edition、place of publication、collation、price、ISBN／ISSN • 可先由Books in Print、The National Union Catalog查起，再縮小範圍使用專科目錄 • Location • 哪個圖書館有典藏 • Selection • 是否圖書館需要購置？

  5. 未來發展 • 回溯性的早期書目資料 • 西元2000以前將不會以紙本形式出現，而只會在網路上提供。 • 省錢又方便 • “esoteric” printed bibliographies • 專科性書目資料仍會繼續出版

  6. Purpose 獨特性或無可取代性的書目，才有價值 Scope 書目應盡量完整包含其宗旨所定義的範圍 收錄資料類型如有區隔，應加說明，如是否包含錄音、錄影資料等 Methodology 應明確標示已檢視過所有條列的資料 一致性及便利性 Organization 編排方式應符合一般書目用法規格 視需要增列索引 Annotations and abstracts 說明或評論資料應標示清楚 Bibliographical form Current Accuracy Bibliography評鑑要件

  19. NUC簡介--1 • 最早為紙本及縮影片 • 圖書館員尋書的指標 • 現在一般多先由Free的Online Catalog著手 • 緣起 • 1901以卡片格式出現 • 1926已經有約二百萬張卡片，並複印給美國境內主要大型圖書館 • 1940開始有紙本 • 1956開始收錄其他圖書館重製之資料 • 1980開始自動化

  20. NUC簡介--2 • 收錄範圍 • LC已編目之館藏 • 提供編目資料給NUC的1500個圖書館資料 • 大約有近四百萬的書籍、手稿、錄音資料

  21. NUC在參考之應用 • 不僅有LC館藏，還有合作館資料，可以視需要提出館際互借 • 可查詢某一作家的所有作品資料 • 可使用LCSH（LC Subject Heading）或關鍵詞查詢 • 提供書籍基本資料，可瞭解其出版情形 • 當需求的資料價昂或為珍本時，可以館際互借方式，以最低成本取得資料 • 集中式目錄，使用者不需到個別系統查詢 • 可協助館員訂購資料

  22. Web上使用NUC的工具 • 在網路上可經由OCLC、DIALOG或RLIN等付費資料庫系統使用約近一億筆書目檔，LC本身的free OPAC則大約只有1千兩百萬筆 • 由於資料量大，線上檢索時，應善用時間或語言等限制條件
