What is freefall? • Freely falling objects are effected by gravity alone. • No air resistance • No other forces • Objects that are dropped small distances mimic free fall. • Objects in freefall accelerate • Gravity acceleratesall objects at the same rate in absence of air resistance • acceleration due to gravity g = 9.80m/s2

Freefall: How Fast • Objects would continue to accelerate at 9.80m/s2 if there was no air resistance. • This means for every second in freefall the objects velocity increases by about 9.80 m/s. • Fill in the chart • Using the eq to Determine how fast. • Terminal Velocity- the maximum velocity an object can reach while falling due to air resistance.

Throwing an object upward is freefall too! • On the way up, the velocity of an object decreases at a rate of 9.80 m/s2. • At the top of the arc the objects velocity is zero but the object still has an acceleration of 9.80 m/s2 • On the way down, the velocity of the object increases at a rate of 9.8 m/s2
