Chosen Foreigners Introduction • Peter expounds on the roles, relationships, & persons of the Triune God. • He explains clearly the truth(s) of salvation. • He emphasizes holiness for the Christian. • He addresses the significance of God’s government. • The Church is important to Peter. • He addresses the doctrine of suffering or living in a hostile environment. • He presents the spiritual dimension of the Christian life. • His letter reflects a prominence of the Holy Spirit.

  4. Chosen Foreigners 1 Peter 1:1–2 (NLT) This letter is from Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ. I am writing to God’s chosen people who are living as foreigners in the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia. 2 God the Father knew you and chose you long ago, and his Spirit has made you holy. As a result, you have obeyed him and have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ. May God give you more and more grace and peace.

Ephesians 1:4 (NLT) Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God took the initiative to choose us as His special possession to be His people.

We will obey.” 8 Then Moses took the blood from the basins and splattered it over the people, declaring, “Look, this blood confirms the covenant the Lord has made with you in giving you these instructions.”

You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. 10 “Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God’s people. Once you received no mercy; now you have received God’s mercy.” 11 Dear friends, I warn you as “temporary residents and foreigners” to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls.

And if someone asks about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it. 16 But do this in a gentle and respectful way. Keep your conscience clear.
