  1. Thought for the week Week Commencing 21st May 2018 “All progress occurs because people dare to be different.” Harry Millner “"A young person who is not capable of dreaming is cloistered in himself, he’s closed in on himself. Sure, a person sometimes dreams of things that are never going to happen. But dream them. Desire them. Seek the horizon. Open yourselves to great things." Pope Francis

  2. Spirit of wisdom and understanding, enlighten our minds to perceive the mysteries of the universe. Spirit of right judgment and courage, guide us and make us firm in our decision to follow Jesus' way of love. Spirit of knowledge and reverence, help us to see the lasting value of justice and mercy in our everyday dealings with one another. Spirit of God, spark our faith, hope and love into new action each day. Fill our lives with wonder and awe in your presence. Amen St John Plessington Pray for us

  3. Monday 21st May 2018 1 Corinthians 12:3-11 What I want to talk about now is the various ways God’s Spirit works in our lives. This is complex and often misunderstood, but I want you to be informed and knowledgeable. Remember how you were when you didn’t know God, never knowing what you were doing, just doing it because everybody else did it? It’s different in this life. God wants us to use our intelligence, to seek to understand as well as we can. For instance, by using your heads, you know perfectly well that the Spirit of God would never prompt anyone to say “Jesus be damned!” Nor would anyone be inclined to say “Jesus is Master!” without the insight of the Holy Spirit. God’s various gifts are handed out everywhere; but they all originate in God’s Spirit. God’s various ministries are carried out everywhere; but they all originate in God’s Spirit. God’s various expressions of power are in action everywhere; but God himself is behind it all. Each person is given something to do that shows who God is: Everyone is involved, everyone benefits. All kinds of things are handed out by the Spirit, and to all kinds of people! The variety is wonderful: .

  5. Monday 21st May 2018 Class Discussion Paired Speaking Question What does the word “Pentecost” mean? Pentecost is a Christian holy day that celebrates the coming of the Holy Spirit 40 days after Easter. Some Christian denominations consider it the birthday of the Christian church and celebrate it as such. Originally, Pentecost was a Jewish holiday held 50 days after Passover. Class Speaking Challenge: What happened to the Disciples on Pentecost Sunday? When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Class Discussion: What are the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit? The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord.

  6. Tuesday 22nd May 2018 Although God wants you to enjoy what He's given you, He didn’t gift you with talents just for your own benefit. So What gifts and talents do you think you have ? God of gifts, thank you for the blessings you have given us. May we always use our gifts and talents in a way that demonstrates kindness, humility, and compassion. May we continue to do our part in developing our gifts. Keep our hearts and minds open to the direction of the Spirit, who calls us to celebrate our gifts by sharing them with others. Amen St John Plessington Pray for us
