Character Tarquinius Sextus was a very odd person. He was arrogant, lying, and egotistical. He sparked the fall of the Roman Monarchy by his lustfulness. This proves that one guy actually can screw it up for everyone.
The story The story goes like this: Tarquinius Sextus and his fellow people argue over who has the best wife. They decide to go and spy on all their wives to verify who does indeed has the best. The winner was Lucretia, wife of Collatinus. Tarquinius Sextus liked her so much that he went back a few days later to try to have sex with her. She declined, so he threatened to murder her and put a dead slave in her bed. Then he raped her. I’m not exactly sure why he thought his actions made any sense at all, but he did.
Mox Lvcretia sibi mortem conscivit CRUOREM!!!
Between her rape and suicide, Lucretia told her father and husband what happened. • Tarquinius ran to Gabii, made himself king, and was murdered. • Lucius Junius Brutus, a friend of Collatinus, led a revolt that ended the monarchy by taking Sextus’ father out of reign.
