  2. 1. Avoir un poil dans la main (to have a hair in one’s hand) to shy away from work, to avoid work at all costs. EX: Tu as vraiment un poil dans ta main…tu est simplement très paresseux!!! • 2. Tomber sur un os (to fall on a bone) to meet a difficulty, to hit a snag. EX: Je n’ai pas fait les devoirs…je suis tombé(e) sur un os!

  3. Casser les pieds à quelqu’un (to break someone’s feet) To get on someone’s nerves, to bore someone stiff. EX: Arrête! Tu me casses les pieds…tu es vraiment ennuyeux! • Manger sur le pouce (to eat on the thumb). To have a quick snack, grab a bite to eat. EX> ….Après l’école je vais à l’épicerie…et j’ai acheté deux ou trois petites chose…et puis, j’ai mangé sur le pouce à Sonic.

  4. Tirer le diable par la queue (to pull the Devil by the tail). To be hard up, to live hand to mouth. EX: La veuve et son fils…je crois qu’ils n’ont presque plus d’argent et j’ai l’impression qu’ils tirent le diable par le queue. • Partir ventre à terre (to leave belly-to-ground)…to leave in a flash, to race off. Paul est en retard, alors…il est allé à l’aéroport à toute vitesse! C’est à dire qu’il est parti ventre à terre!
