  2. Pragmatics Pragmatics = the study of how language is used to communicate within its situational context. ----------------------------------------------- Jack: “Kathy’s cooking dinner tonight.” Jill: “Better stock up on some Alka- Seltzer.” What is the conclusion?

  3. Pragmatics An appropriate answer to the question “Do you have the time?” might be “10 minutes past 10.” An inappropriate answer would be “Yes.”
