  1. What Happens if Sinusitis Isn’t Treated? What is sinusitis? Sinusitis, as the name suggests, is the inflammation of the sinus. Healthy sinuses are a connected system of hollow cavities in the skull while an infected sinus is blocked with fluid, causing germs and infections to grow. Many conditions lead to sinusitis, such as the common cold, allergic rhinitis, blocked drainage ducts, immune system deficiencies, polyps, and in some cases, even a deviated septum. In young children, sinusitis can occur due to a specific type of allergies; illness contracted from other kids at school or day-care, pacifiers, bottle drinking in the lying position, and the presence of smoke or irritant in the environment. There are many types of sinusitis that you can suffer from, such as: Acute sinusitis 

  2. Subacute sinusitis Chronic sinusitis Recurrent sinusitis    What are the standard treatment modalities for sinusitis? If your doctor diagnoses you with sinusitis, he will prescribe certain over-the-counter medications such as a saline nasal spray or a saline nasal solution drop—these help in decongesting the nasal passage. Your doctor may also prescribe you some antibiotics for approximately two weeks, which would significantly help the symptoms disappear. You may also use a vaporizer or warm air to keep your nasal passages moist. You can also use warm compresses, saline nasal solution drops, and saline nasal spray for chronic sinusitis. What happens if sinusitis is not treated? When left untreated for very long, sinusitis can progress to cause several infections and problems that can continue for many months. Some of the complications that result from untreated sinus infections are: The infection can spread to the eyes leading to swelling and reduced vision. Severe infections are treated with a more potent dose of antibiotics that are administered intravenously. Your doctor may also suggest a computer tomography scan (CT) to check any fluid build-up that needs to be drained. Infections spreading to the brain in rare events can lead to meningitis which is a life- threatening medical condition.    How do Naselin and saline nasal spray help clear sinusitis? Naselin is a nasal spray solution that contains oxymetazoline hydrochloride as the active ingredient. It helps relieve nasal congestions caused by cold and sinusitis by constricting the blood vessels to the nose. The reduction in inflammation reduces the congestions providing relief. On the other hand, a saline nasal spray, an isotonic solution, is available over-the-counter as well. These sprays keep the mucosal layer of the nose clean and healthy. When used during sinusitis, saline nasal sprays remove the pollen from the mucosal membrane of the nose. You can also use it during the winters to prevent your nose from drying. Your doctor may suggest you use a saline nasal spray to clean the nose before administering any drug. Concluding Remarks Sinusitis is the infection and inflammation of the sinus of the nose. The most common form of treating sinusitis is saline nasal solution drops and saline nasal sprays to reduce the infection and keep the nasal passage clean. You must consult with your doctor regarding the treatment and the use of saline nasal spray if you are diagnosed with sinusitis. Source - Tumblr
