  1. Cost comparison in EURONU DS Mats Lindroos

  2. How to chose? PhD students! Physics Reach Safety Cost Feasibility (Risk or R&D need) Neutrino beams

  3. Objectives • Perform a costing of the three European candidate projects: • Using identical costing strategy • “It is crucial to arrive at a cost but it is even more important to use a credible method to arrive at that cost” • Has to start from the beginning of the study • Cost drivers are likely to be infrastructure and safety related issues • The costing will be part of the input CERN council needs to take a decision in 2012

  4. Training for costing • Training event to be organized at CERN • Trainers: • Hugo Bohn, Julich • Carlo Wyss, CERN • Participants: • All EURONU DS task leaders and participants in task with responsibility for costing • EURISOL task leaders • Other interested in the event • Possible dates will be circulated in coming weeks!

  5. Elements of EURONU costing • Databases and documentation required for costing: • Parameters • Components • Comparison and cross referencing: • Completed projects such as CERN LHC project, T2K • Costed future projects such as ILC, CLIC, FRIB, ESS • Projects working on costing such as EURISOL, ProjectX Neutrino beams

  6. Conclusions • We just started the design study • We will all help we can get on costing • The IAP can play a crucial role in costing Neutrino beams
