  12. Student Activities • Register by meeting with Disability Services student advisor • Request for Letters to Professors (LTP’s) • Request for Notetaking services for classes they have enrolled in, for the current term • Exam Accommodations request for midterm and/or final exams, for the current term

  13. Student Registration Process • Medical Documentation • DSS Medical Questionnaire (for a non-learning disability) or Psycho-Educational Assessment • Student meets with DSS Student Advisor • Advisor adds student to DSS database • Process

  14. Student Requests Letters To Professors (LTP’s) • Initial request • Occurs when the student meets for the first time with a DSS student advisor • Subsequent requests • May occur anytime after the initial request, via the DSS website • Letters are emailed to the student’s UofS email account; student is encouraged to hand deliver the letter to her professor(s)

  15. Student Request Notetaking Service For Classes • Made when the student requests LTP’s • List of requested courses are displayed to administrator who then makes announcements, using PAWS announcement feature, to all students registered in those specific course(s) • Students are then matched with a volunteer Notetaker who is taking the same course

  16. Notetaking Service • Potential notetakers respond to the DSS announcement and an initial meeting is arranged to sign-up the student notetaker • Each notetaker is then matched with a student or students, requiring notes in the class the notetaker has agreed to take notes for • Notetakers photocopy and deliver their handwritten notes through the Copy Centre, using a 4-digit ID #; DSS students then pickup the photocopied notes without meeting the student who is providing their notes

  17. Student Requests Exam Accommodation(s) • Student logs in to a web form and is asked to chose if she wants to make an exam accommodation for a final or non final exam • Student is presented with a list of courses that she can make an exam accommodation for • After choosing the course she requires accommodations for, she is able to complete her request • Student can visit the same web form at a later time to find out the status of her exam accommodation

  18. Exam Accommodation Service • Runs report that lists submitted exam accommodations • Working from that report, edits each exam record - adjusting the status of the exam and other required information • Requests exam copies from department administrators by creating department memos that list required exams • Schedules and books exam rooms and invigilators/scribes to finalize exam schedule for the coming week • Once exams have been written, they are walked over to the appropriate department the next business day

  19. Looking to the Future – Exam Program • Working with ITCOM and the U of S Examination Department to refine use of Infosilem • Working with the University Learning Centre to use their assistive technology for exams

  20. Looking to the Future – Notetaking Program • Having students scan their notes and post to a secure website • Partnering with the University Writing Centre to train notetakers

  21. Looking to the Future – Disability Services for Students • Partnering with the Bookstore and Printing Services for our fledgling Alternate Format Program • Possibly moving to a more central location where all DSS staff can work together • Moving DSS online services onto PAWS
