  3. Summary • A boy, who is in a classroom setting, has been victorious after obtaining a commended performance on TAKS test! Both he and his teacher are celebrating together in his classroom. Both teacher and student are proud of his big accomplishment. He continues to have hope and looks forward to a bright future! The rest of the class seem also to share his joy!!

  4. Student Succeeds • Scored a 100 on test. • Had the highest grade • in class. • Teacher is congratulating him.

  5. Immigrant Students: Kids' backgrounds greatly affect their success in American schools • The age at which a student immigrates is important. • So is family income • The quality of education back home. • The educational backgrounds of parents.

  6. DIFFERENCES • Student succeeds • Student was not In competition • Had nothing to do with test scores. • Student is in a classroom. • Immigrant Students: Kids' backgrounds greatly affect their success in American schools • Student was an immigrant • Quality of education in the home

  7. similarities • Both articles are about the student. • Teacher is pleased with the student. • Student appears to be successful. • Student feels proud of himself. • Student and teacher are in a classroom setting.

  8. Personal Overview I enjoyed reading the article and found that by using context clues and making inferences one can make predictions as to what the article was about. There were similarities and differences between the two. Being an immigrant myself, I found that I do not entirely agree with the article due to my own life experiences.
