  3. Social Ladder Great Speaker (aka emperor) Nobles Royal Family Priests Warriors Commoners Slaves

  4. Tributes • 4x a year • Clothing • Accessories (feathers, jaguar skins) • Food (maize, beans, cocoa) • Jewels

  5. Royal Family • Food brought in from other villages (sweet potatoes, oysters, pineapple, hairless dogs) • Great Speaker’s family

  6. Nobles • Warrior that captured 4 people by himself • Eat better food than other warriors

  7. Warriors • Every guy fights no matter which school you went to • Fight in the flower war • Capture as many people as you can • Try not to kill prisoners • Prisoners used as slaves

  8. Priests • Have to have gone to Calmecac (priest school) • Help with sacrifices • Read the ancient calendars

  9. Slaves • Prisoners taken in from Flower War • People that didn’t pay tribute • Used as sacrifices

  10. Punishments • Brought before judge (while waiting you are put in a wooden cage) • House knocked down (if only robbery) • Executed • Strangled • Clubbed to death • Slaves to be sacrificed

  11. Education • Priests • Read • write • How to use calendars • Warrior • How to be the handyman • Handle weapons and fight

  12. Weapons • Bow and arrow • Strong wooden swords with razor sharp blades on the end • Spear thrower for javelins, poison tipped darts • shields

  13. Food • Sea animals(fish, frog, turtles, fish eggs) • Land animals(lizard, hairless dogs, cactus worms, turkey, armadillo, tapir) • Tortillas(main food) • Vegetables(maize, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, peppers)

  14. Rituals • Sacrifice people by ripping out their hearts • On The Great Temple(biggest temple in city) • Priests cut out hearts • Your heart is a gift to the gods so that they don’t end the world

  15. Games • Kind of like basketball except the basket is sideways • Basket is 5 feet above your head • Loser has to sacrifice a player
