  2. Discussion • Why do we study history? • We need it to graduate • We can’t escape the past. Everything has a history. It is everywhere, changes in technology. Politics, wars, etc.

  3. Scientific Revolution & Enlightenment1550-1600 • The Renaissance (rebirth) was the first change from the Middle Ages. This was started by Aristotle. • During the Renaissance the spirit of curiosity encouraged people to study the natural world.

  4. Aristotle384BC – 322BC • He created a system of thought based on observation and logic. This dominated scientific thinking during the Middle Ages.

  5. Nicolaus Copernicus • A astronomer and mathematician. • He proved that the Earth was not stationary, and that it turned on an axis once a day. • During this time many people did not want to believe Copernicus because of religious teachings.

  6. Galileo Galilei • Used a telescope to observe the planets and stars.
