This exploration of euthanasia delves into its ethical implications, considering medical, philosophical, and religious perspectives. On the medical front, euthanasia may provide terminally ill patients relief from suffering, allowing for a dignified, pain-free death. Philosophically, figures like Plato and Aristotle pondered its acceptability in extreme cases. Conversely, religious views, particularly in Judaism and Christianity, argue against euthanasia, emphasizing the sanctity of life and the belief that only God should determine the end of life. This debate continues to shape societal and ethical discussions surrounding euthanasia.

Euthanasia The Ethical Debate By Jared McGahee
The Ethical Debate • Medical Debate • Philosophical Debate • Religious Debate
Medical Debate • Euthanasia could eliminate the pain that terminally ill patients go through. • Give patients the right for a pain free death
Medical Debate Cont. • Doctors could give them a pain free death by injecting the patient with an overdose of a certain medicine
Philosophical Debate • “euthanasia” derives from Greek- means “good death” • Many ancient western philosophers have thought euthanasia was acceptable in certain situations. • These great philosophers include: Plato, Aristotle, Augustine and Thomas Aquinas.
Philosophical Debate Cont. • Plato thought euthanasia was harmful to character except in certain cases where the patient was extremely ill or in deep suffering.
Religious Debate • Jewish and Christian thinkers have generally opposed suicide because they thought the patient was not fulfilling their duty to God. • These arguments have shaped Christian thought for centuries.
Religious Debate Cont. • The Religious debate centers around God having control of your life and not the individual.
