  1. RPC Trigger System   review in USC Wojciech Okliński University of Warsaw Wojciech Okliński, CERN, RPC trigger electronics review - 22.01.2008 1

  2. Contents Status of RPC Trigger electronics in USC55 Status of RPC Trigger parts RPC Trigger system needs for Upscope QPLL lock problem with masterLHC CLK (resolved) Wojciech Okliński, CERN, RPC trigger electronics review - 22.01.2008 2

  3. Status of electronics system in USC55 All electronics and cables installed (staged version) 12 Trigger Crates 1 Sorter/TTU Crate 1 RedOut Crate Wojciech Okliński, CERN, RPC trigger electronics review - 22.01.2008

  4. Trigger crates 12 Trigger Crates 84 Trigger Boards (7 per TC) 12 SorterBoard (backplane) 60 Splitter Boards (5 per TC) After installation, we had no problems with Trigger Crates. All boards since then work correctly. Wojciech Okliński, CERN, RPC trigger electronics review - 22.01.2008 4

  5. ReadOut Crate 1 Readout Crate 3 CCS Boards with 8 FEC 3 DCC Boards No problem with Readout Crate Wojciech Okliński, CERN, RPC trigger electronics review - 22.01.2008 5

  6. Sorter/TTU Crate 1 Sorter/TTU Crate 2 Half Sorter Boards 1 Full Sorter Boards 3 TTU/Trigger Boards Present situation: 1 HSB in USC55 has a defect: 2 out of 12 inputs are broken. 2 HSB and 1 FSB are in production - expected delivery to CERN – about one month. Wojciech Okliński, CERN, RPC trigger electronics review - 22.01.2008

  7. Trigger Crates power supplies • 5 TC power supplies were modified by Wiener •  and installed in USC55 crates • PS tests scheduled for incoming weeks. • By February remaining TCPower Supplies units will be send to Wiener. Wojciech Okliński, CERN, RPC trigger electronics review - 22.01.2008

  8. Status of RPC trigger parts • In the production are 2 HSB and 1 FSB. • This will ensure sufficient numbers of spare SBs. • We have 2 splitter boards with broken optical output. After repair, we will have sufficient spare Splitter Bds. • We have enough TBs and mezzanine Boards Wojciech Okliński, CERN, RPC trigger electronics review - 22.01.2008 8

  9. Status of RPC trigger parts • In the rest of the trigger system the only remaining problem is one with with TC power supplies only. • 1 DCC spare is in Warsaw test stand Wojciech Okliński, CERN, RPC trigger electronics review - 22.01.2008 9

  10. Trigger system needs forRPC Upscope RE4/3/ RE4/2 installation (change of present station 2 to station 4 or new station 4): - fully operational with currently installed electronics RE4/1, RE3/1, RE2/1 @ RE11 (upscope to eta~2.1): - to have it operational we need 24 Trigger Boards with mezzanines Wojciech Okliński, CERN, RPC trigger electronics review - 22.01.2008 10

  11. QPLL frequency scan by A.Holzner 27 march 2008 Locking range of the bulk of our boards was not centered at the LHC frequency. Wojciech Okliński, CERN, RPC trigger electronics review - 22.01.2008 11

  12. QPLL • SorterBoard (backplane) : QPLL problem • too large parasitic capacity between crystal solder pad and PowerPlane on PCB. • Solution description • The pad removed and the crystal connected directly by a thin wire. Wojciech Okliński, CERN, RPC trigger electronics review - 22.01.2008 12

  13. QPLL locking range frequency for the SorterBoard after Wojciech Okliński, CERN, RPC trigger electronics review - 22.01.2008 13

  14. END Thank you Wojciech Okliński, CERN, RPC trigger electronics review - 22.01.2008 14
