  4. Why? Texans realized that if they were going to achieve change, they must establish a common goal, Independence form Mexico. Declaration of independence and the convention of 1836

  5. What? Sam Houston struggled to keep people at the convention, they all wanted to go and help at the Alamo. Houston convinced them that the only way Texas was to succeed was to create a strong government. Declaration of independence and the convention of 1836

  6. What? George Childress was elected to head the committee to write a Declaration of Independence for Texas. He worked throughout the night, and the following day, March 2, 1836, Texas declared itself an independent republic. Declaration of independence and the convention of 1836
