  1. Updates & Understanding SHCP Pastoral Focus & Issues For Parish Groups/Ministries Dr. Damian Lee 11/07/13

  2. U Understanding Parish Pastoral Focus and Issues • As Parish leaders its crucial to have a grasp of the bigger “Parish Picture” from where we function. • Its pertinent to know, understand & to own the Key Pastoral Issues so as to focus & address them in areas where your Charism lies. • Being members of Parish – need to play roles as members.

  3. Parish Pastoral Focus & Issues Introduction • SHCP Year Of Faith (YOF) Core Committee was initiated by the PPC to discern, plan, map out and spearhead Parish level pastoral processes, events, programs & activities to discover/rediscover our faith, learn the content of our faith & to live it with new evangelization in this YOF & beyond in addressing our 3 PPP.

  4. Background • 2006 Parish Discernment Weekend (PDW) Consensually identified & derived top 3 Parish Pastoral Priorities (PPP). • (1) ) Catholic Faith Formation. • (2) Family issues– Parenting, Childrening, Drugs, marriage issues, AFS etc…. • (3) Reaching out to General Parishioners.

  5. Pastoral Focus • Parish Pastoral Priority (PPP) . Interlinked, . Interconnected, . Interrelated.

  6. SHCP Parish Pastoral Survey • SHCP 1st Parish level Pastoral Survey was conducted from 21st – 22nd April 2007 – weekend masses. • An excellent response rate of over 80%. • Managed to reach the target age groups with males and females in almost equal ratios (47%/ 51%). • Of the respondents, 57% were from parishioners who do not belong to any groups whilst the rest belong to one of the many church groups in our parish.

  7. SHCP Parish Pastoral Survey Feedback on Family issues • Of the 14 issues raised, the consensus (across 730 respondents from the three language groups) for the top 3 most serious issues faced by families are: • Internet pornography facing young people. • Internet pornography facing married men. • Dadah addiction.

  8. Parish Pastoral Survey Feedback on Catholic Faith Formation • A very high percentage (35%) did not respond on their level of knowledge of the Catholic faith, whilst only 18% feel they know the Catholic teachings very well. • There is much that can and should be done in this area.

  9. Survey feedback onReaching out to Parishioners • 56% say they are touched by church teachings. • 60% think church teachings have a strong influence on their value system. • However, less than 50% are aware that it is the role of every parishioner to reach out to others.

  10. Pareto's theory The 80-20 Rule • Observed that twenty percent of the people owned eighty percent of the wealth in his country, • "vital few and trivial many“ • The 80/20 Rule means that in anything a few (20 percent) are vital and many(80 percent) are trivial.

  11. Pareto's theory The 80-20 Rule • 80 percent of your stock comes from 20 percent of your suppliers. • Also 80 percent of your sales will come from 20 percent of your sales staff. • 20 percent of your staff will cause 80 percent of your problems, but another 20 percent of your staff will provide 80 percent of your production. It works both ways.

  12. Pareto's theory The 80-20 Rule • You can apply the 80/20 Rule to almost anything, from the science of management to the physical world. • If we can address and resolve The 3 PPP we have literary resolved 80% of our Parish Pastoral issues and concern !!
