  2. Harvesting Large Conifers on Steep Slopes. • Generally Harvesting Trees (>3m3 and up to 9m3). • Slopes >45% with environmental issues associated with this type of operations. • Max distance 600m, generally uphill extraction. • Methods used – Winch, Helicopter, Other.

  3. Large tree size- Bark Sheds mean-3m3, some 9m3 plus

  4. Management and harvesting and protection systems on very steep slopes (is clearfell the only option for large trees). • Funding – who pays additional costs associated with protection forests – does government pay grants, or is it a statutory requirement.

  5. Planning all pre operation input. • Selection criteria for winch vs helicopter. • Consideration/experience of night-time working.

  6. Pre operation work Site Prep, Access, Loading Bays etc. • Road building, secondary handling. • Experience of working above public highways, and control measures employed.

  7. Actual Felling Systems, outputs Presentation for methods of extraction skills required by operators and training undertaken. • Contact details for contractors, machine manufacturers, etc.

  8. Actual Extraction Operations Machine type Capability • Especially handling of large Logs 3m3+

  9. Conversion/Processing at roadside stacking Methods of despatch. Handling of large logs and equipment used.

  10. Public Safety HSE Issues Protecting Highways and Utilities etc. • Future Management of these sites re soil stability / highway safety etc.

  11. Protection Fencing where used and Types.

  12. How Residue is dealt with at Roadside. • Any Problems Re Site Safety afterwards e.g Winds blowing dry lop and top on to public highways long after felling.

  13. Additional 1-1.5 Days for FES. • If possible obtain information on costings and outputs for current operations of this type • Specific contacts for machinery manufacturers and contractors/operators
