  1. Arterial blood gas measurement Dr .Aya Abdel Dayem

  2. Acid base balance • Normal PH 7.35-7.45 • ِA PH <7.35 acidosis • A PH>7.45 alkalosis

  3. Arterial blood gas measurement • 1- Pao2=13 kpa • PaCO2=5 kpa • PH=7.39 • a) Identify ABG • b) Diagnosis normal

  4. Arterial blood gas measurement • 2- Pao2=8 kpa • PaCO2=10 kpa • PH=7.22 • Identify ABG • Diagnosis Type II respiratory failure

  5. Arterial blood gas measurement • 3-Pao2=6kpa • PaCO2=4kpa • PH=7. 30 • Identify ABG • Diagnosis Type I respiratory failure

  6. Arterial blood gas measurement • 4-Pao2=15 kpa • PaCO2=3 kpa • PH=7.47 • Identify ABG • Diagnosis Psychogenic hyperventilation

  7. Spirometry • It measures changes in lung volume by recording changes in the volume of air exchanged through the air way opening. • Forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV) • Forced vital capacity (FVC) • FEVI/FVC 75%

  8. Spirometry • Obstructive defect • FEV1is reduced more than the FVC • The FEV/FVC is <75% • Asthma • COPD • Bronchiectasis • Cystic fibrosis

  9. Spirometry • Restrictive defect: • FVC reduced • The FEV /FVC ratio is normal. • Sarcoidosis • Pneumoconiosis • Obesity • Connective tissue disease • Pleural effusion

  10. Chest X ray • Pleural effusion • Collapse • COPD • Pneumothorax

  11. Thank you
