  1. Fantastic notaries and where to find them Looking for where to find a notary can seem like a daunting search but they can be in ready supply depending on where you live. Rules surrounding who can be a notary are different in different countries and in United States of America it differs from state to state. A notary is someone given the power to serve the public on non-contentious issues, they can witness the signing of legal documents and administer oaths. So if you require a will, a testament or a deed notarised you are going to need to know where to find a notary. Thankfully there are a few places they are commonly found. Lawyers and Local Law Enforcement In many countries notaries are lawyers or involved in the legal profession. This is not de facto, being a lawyer does not necessarily make you a notary. In some countries a lawyer would have to apply separately to become a notary and as such the take up rate could be quite low. However, a law firm would generally employ a notary. Sherriff’s offices and police stations, like law firms, will in all likelihood have at least one notary on staff to deal with oaths and affidavits. So in your search for ‘where to find a notary’, you can start by asking your lawyer. Banks and Shipping Companies In the Niagara Region notaries often have fewer powers than notaries in Europe or other continents and as such it is easier to become a notary. This means that in many states banks and other such institutions provide notary services. The best part of this is that if you are an existing customer then your bank might not charge you for the service. Another example is companies that ship documents. These will often have a notary working for them in their offices. Public offices Offices that are run by local government such as public libraries and court houses may be able to provide notary services. Notary Directory Most states will have a list of registered notaries. From this you can choose a notary that is near to you. Some notaries do house calls and will meet you to notarise your documents, these are called mobile notaries. Be aware though that notaries can often only operate inside their own state. Also be aware that different states allow notaries to charge different fees. So as well as looking for ‘where to find a notary’, you should also consider how much a notary costs. So to provide a shorthand answer to the question, ‘where to find a notary’, you can find them lots of places. The above is not an exhaustive list of where to find a notary but it does provide a number of common locations to check. Searching online will also help and can tell
