  1. What is IP Address & How to Check that Online?

  2. An IP abbreviation is Internet Protocol, transmission mechanism used by the TCP/IP protocols. • IP is the simple unreliable connectionless datagram protocol-a best-effort delivery service. • The term best-effort means that IP provides no error checking or tracking. • IP assumes the unreliability of the underlying layers and does its best to get a transmission through to its destination.

  3. IP must be paired with a reliable protocol such as TCP. • An example of a more commonly understood best-effort delivery service is the post office. • The post-office does it’s best to deliver the mail but does not always succeed. • If an unregistered letter is lost, it is up to the sender or would be recipient to discover the loss and rectify the problem.

  4. The post office itself does not keep track of every the letter and cannot notify a sender of loss or damage. • An example of a situation similar to pairing to IP with a protocol that contains reliability functions is self-addressed, stamped postcard included in a letter mailed through the post office. • When the letter is delivered the receiver mails the postcard back to the sender to indicate success.

  5. A data gram is a variable-length packet up to 65.536 bytes consisting of two parts: • If the sender never receiver the postcard, he or she assumes the letter was lost and sends out another copy. • IP transports data in packets called datagram.  Each of which is transported separately. • Data gram may travel along different routes.

  6. Header • Data • IPV6 • IPV6, has new version address consist of 16 bytes (octets), making it 128 bits long. It has some advantage over IPV4 but in case of format is much different.

  7. Hexadecimal Colon Notation: - • It contains hexadecimal digits and uses colons to separate each block.  • 128, bits are divided into eight sections, each two bytes in length. Two bytes in hexadecimal notation require four hexadecimal digits. • Therefore, the address consists of 32 hexadecimal digits, with every four digits separated by a colon. An address is 128 bits long.

  8. It uses a new header format in which options are separated from the base header, when needed between the base header and the upper layer data. • It is an internet layer protocol for packet switching. • For example the IPv6 represent in binary format as below:-2001:0db8:0000:0042:0000:8a2e:0370:7334

  9. THANKS • IP play an important role in networking. • We suggest you to visit the various online IP checker tools, where you will find the complete information about you IP address, Hostname, Location, Ping and Traceroute.
